Annoying T.V. Salespeople And Their Demon Spawns From Hell
64Your Relaxing Evening
It's 7:03, and you have just sat down to watch your favorite program. As you are becoming more comfortable in your favorite chair, the stress from the hurdles of the day of traffic, noise, overbearing work tasks, and inept co-workers slowly start to drift away. The soft soothing tone of Brenda Strong's voice of Desperate Housewives eases the tense muscles in your body. Becoming more and more relaxed, you sink deeper into that soft Lazy Boy chair. You sip that iced tea or that tumbler of fine Scotch, and take a deep breath of that relaxing scent of your own private castle.
As you sit, you wonder who will be the next victim of spousal infidelity, or whether the little fat girls will ever lose weight. Your mind being totally focused on the characters' ficticious lives, all tensions of the day are dilluted with each sip of that great cold beverage. Then, like a police siren screaming out of nowhere, a local appliance salesperson comes on.
The sound of the voice irritates and hurts your ears like the sound of some pimple- faced freak running his fingernails down the chalk board when you were back in school. The pain in your ear is worsened by the sight of the disgusting creature, invading the little peace time that you have put aside for yourself, and it makes you angry.
As you scramble for the remote to mute this autotoxic parasite, you knock over your drink. Not finding the remote soon enough, you jump up out of your chair to manually push the volume button, and extinguish the extremely annoying commercial.
These glorified junk dealers usually do not have a product worth buying to begin with. And as if these junk dealers were not bad enough just on their own, they bring in their children and grandchildren, I assume to try and add some charm to their advertising strategy. I call them the Demon Spawns From Hell.
Does it really make you want to buy a car or an appliance from someone when they have their whiney, earpiercing child screaming at you to buy from them?
And now we have politicians with their shrill voiced children in the election campaign adds, "Vote for my Daddy, he's the good guy!" I don't think that a child can understand politics or even what's really going on around him. Children should be doing what a child does! Playing with his friends, focusing on school, and just plain O being a kid. A child does not need the pressure of doing a commercial correctly, or being in the public eye for the parent's gain.
I recently have been accused of being too negative, so I have rewritten the last part of this hub, and have taken out the part where I fantasize about dropping in on the obnoxious T.V. salespersons, with a clown outfit, and a big bag of poopie. Just keep in mind there are many kinds of abuse, and exploitation of kids in t.v. ads are just one form of abuse both to the child, and to my ears.

That's so damn right.
When I had TV my family developed a habit to turn the mute on whenever there was a commercial break. Mostly because 85% of all commericals were the same every day and that's annoying. We would position the remote control like a cannon towards the TV set on the edge of the table to make it fast and easy when the moment comes. Now I don't have TV and I only watch rented DVDs or watch shows on the internet, like hulu.com, or download them.
Well... I'm glad you got that off your chest! But I bet most of the dummies who screech their TV ads at us, are just following the direction of which ever ad agency is doing business with them. Maybe you could call the dealership, washing machine retailer, or who ever has the crappy commericials, and just ask who they worked with on a specific ad. Then call the "creative" bunch who came up with the junk ad, and express your regret that you won't be able to use them for your future advertising projects, (you MAY need to run and ad someday), since they did such an offensive job with XYZ Plumbling, or who ever. Maybe that will help them to try a bit harder to do un-intrusive ads. (You might also contact the stores, dealerships, and so on, and let them know as long as they continue the terrible ads, you will NOT be buying, and give them some constructive suggestions.)
I really enjoyed this Hub, by the way! A good rant is a good thing. :)
Have you seen the "shoe-dinni" commercial? The SCREAMING narrator drives me up the wall!
I feel you on this one too.I can be watching the most relaxing interesting show and BOOM!! another annoying commercial. Personally I rather watch TV on my DVR.
I think each one of us feels the same most of the times. I hate when you are watching TV and suddenly a commercial at a higher volume start like you were sleeping while watching TV and need to be woke up to see the advertisement. If I'm sleeping I'd like to remain so, and if I'm not I don't need to hear the trumpets of hell.
Great hub! I am just as annoyed as you are too!
Congress is trying to pass a bill about TV commercials and their blaring volume! Hopefully it will become illegal for commercials to be louder than the programs you are veiwing.
I have to turn the volume down everytime a commercial comes on to protect my poor dog's ears.
I go through a lot of batteries, and it is very annoying to say the least!
Very cool Hub, Bro'. I'm with you. Glad to see you are getting some nice traffic.
Cool Lj, I don't watch channels with commercials. I think if I have to pay to watch the damn tv, I sure is hell am not going to watch the channels with commercials.

Oh john we have them here in Australia, OMG these people are pathetic, thank god for the flicker :-)
btw we are getting ads on our pay-TV now ain't that a disgrace. We have to pay to watch ads!
btw2: Have you noticed how much louder the ads are than the normal TV, the stations claim that they are not 'louder' they are just 'compressed'more. Go figure that one!
Great hub good to hear someone speak out on this annoying issue. Thanks for the annoying TV Salespeople and now if you could just set up a slapping booth for annoying TV salespersons, you could make a killing! Peace :)
It does drive me too distraction how the volume increases. It has come down to using the DVR and skipping the commercials on nearly everything. Also I find myself watching less and less TV. 'Autotoxic parasite' is brilliant i need to use that somewhere.
I rarely watch tv, but I couldn't have been happier hearing that commercial volume was being addressed. I don't know how or who decides the content of adds, but I am little impressed by a huge number of them
You really hit the nail on the head with this one. I don't know if these salespeople think using a small child in a bad commercial is cute or what, it is annoying though. Good points made!
I love this hub, so true. You turn on the TV and someone starts barking at you with a voice that sounds like two files grating together. Great hub.
Hi, Oh tell me about it! lol every ten minutes the Ads come on, and I start yelling at the TV! What gets me is that they have even started putting them on when the TV programme is just starting! you get a bit of music a few names come up on the programme and then bam! some idiot selling washing powder! Arggggghhh! thanks nell
I hear you on this, but it's not limited to TV. Now you can find ads on every usable surface of buses and trucks. We can see them on sidewalks now and in large format LCD TV screens on the side of buildings in strategic locations so they can be seen a couple of kilometers away. Then there are planes flying banners, flyers, radio and print media that is almost entirely ads. The ad man has invaded every nook and cranny of our lives.
I also really hate the intrusiveness of TV ads. I mute mercilessly! Not that I watch too much TV anyway, it all seems pretty boring and pointless.
Thanks for the interesting and funny rant.
Love and peace
Tony
Excellent hub.
I couldnt have said it better myself.
Like all very funny situations, it reflects real life very well.
Thanks for the laugh.

I know how you feel! And why is it the commercials are always so much louder in volume than the programs you are watching?? If it were not for the remote, I would not watch t.v.
A vivid hub!
